I’m going into Social Work this September at York University, I’ve always believed in helping others. I’m a mental health first aider and have a ton of experience working with many non-profits with over 2,000 hours of community service. I’ve also started making care packages internationally since 2021. In the past, I’ve worked for organizations such as Asperger’s Society of Ontario, MIRA, Sending Sunshine, Tali’s Fund and Let’s Stop Aids. At the moment, I’ve worked with Mood Disorders of Canada on the council, Volunteer Toronto as an advisor, Circle of Care as a medical escort, grocery, friendly visiting and phone pals, as well as Community Living for phone calls. I also have been a volunteer coordinator with Help A Girl Out and have been doing some crisis work.
I believe a parcel with goodies can brighten a person’s day when they are feeling down.
I’ve created was creating care packages for those living internationally. I knew these things existed, but they costed money so wanted to make it free. What has got me into care packages was knowing that many people don’t like talking or reaching out for support when it’s needed. I found care packages as a resource where people who are struggling could use and find their own comforts within a package if talking is hard for them. As a student myself, who also works a couple of part-time jobs, it can be frustrating especially when dealing with many expenses. One of the greatest gifts to receive can be getting a care package and being able to pick up something from your mailbox without having to pay any of the expenses for shipping or any of the items included in the package. A couple of items I enjoy adding to all my care packages are a personalized message, fidget toys, affirmations, and some face masks/skin care products.
I’ve faced using my personal money for funding to ship these parcels without donations.
This motivates me because I like creating parcels and also am going into social work so helps.
